The National Association of Funeral Directors has been supporting funeral directors for over 100 years and is dedicated to maintaining the highest professional standards, and monitoring its members to ensure compliance with a strict Code of Practice.

British Institute of Funeral Directors

The British Institute of Funeral Directors was formed in 1981 by a group of highly experienced, qualified Funeral Directors to provide an organisation that cared for professionally qualified individuals working within the Funeral Industry.

Its main aim is to promote education within the profession and membership has now grown to over 1600 members and students.

The Institute is responsible for providing fully trained tutors for those wishing to study for the Foundation Certificate, the Diploma in Funeral Directing and the new Higher Certificate in Funeral Service Management. Regular courses are held for the Tutors to enable them to keep up to date with current practice.

FIAT-IFTA – International Federation of Thanatologists Association

The International Federation of Thanatologists was founded in 1970 to initially promote the preservation care through thanatological/embalming processes and in 1988 it was transformed into a Worfd Wide Federation of funeral services.

The main objectives of the federation are to research and study issues relating to the funeral industry, promote international goodwill and understanding amongst the world's funeral service professionals whilst encouraging development of embalming procedures and achieving uniform standards and regulations across the world.
