Community work - 'Caring for the Carers'
Our 'Caring for the Carers' Education Programme was originally set up in response to a lack of bereavement training within hospital and care home environments.
Many professionals were dealing with death on a daily basis but had no formal training on how to support and advise relatives when it came to burial or cremation.
The aim was to fill in the gaps by explaining to people - particularly nurses and care home workers - what happens once someone has passed away and the role of the modern funeral director.
Our care programme, for which there is no professional fee, was carefully developed and offered organisations two options - a lecture that could be run at their premises or an extended programme that is run at our bereavement home in Dewsbury.
Following the launch, the response was overwhelming and dozens of care homes in the region now engage our services at least three times a year. Seminars are run by our general manager, Edward Box, and embrace a range of subject matter from preparation of the deceased to the legal aspects of burial or cremations.
