Funeral director's little book of comfort

A West Yorkshire funeral director has turned author to compile a book on helping bereaved families cope with the loss of a loved one.

Edward Box, manager of
Eric F Box, with his book -
'A Journey Through Grief'.

Edward Box has written the 190-page 'A Journey Through Grief', a pocket guide covering emotional and practical recovery following a death.

The manager of Eric F Box, of Dewsbury, spent the last year analysing hundreds of funerals undertaken by the firm, focusing on the after-shock felt by families.

It was originally planned to produce a leaflet containing brief tips to be handed out following funerals.

However, the project soon ballooned, with Edward and colleague Tracey Cusick, finding enough useful advice to fill chapters on specific subjects.

Edward, 26, realised that the book deserved a wider audience. He said: "Over the years my father, Richard, my brother Andrew and myself have seen so much reaction to death and how people have struggled to come to terms with loss.

"This manifests itself in all sorts of ways - from those suffering the deep hurt of loneliness, to the practicalities of taking a holiday without a partner.
