NEW FUNERAL FLEET MEANS CLEANER TIMES AHEAD!

A Dewsbury family of funeral directors - the Box's of Bradford Road - may have to consider a new career thanks to the delivery of a stunning new fleet of funeral cars!

That's because Richard Box along with his two sons Edward, Andrew, and the rest of the funeral home team, are now faced with an onerous weekly task.......up to 50 car washes every seven days!

Richard, who is managing director of Eric F. Box, established in 1853, said: "Heads were turning as we took delivery of the new three car Jaguar fleet a couple of days ago. As far as we are aware it is the only one of its type between here and South Yorkshire.

"However, considering that each car has to be washed twice, sometimes three times a day, you can imagine that we have quite a task ahead of us!"

Mr Box said they were delighted with the new fleet, a hearse and two special 'coachbuilt' cars each capable of holding eight people including the driver.

"The last fleet was purchased in 2000 and, while funeral cars don't necessarily clock up high mileage, they are more likely to suffer corroding bodywork because of the constant washing which is why we need to change them every few years.

"They are only ever driven slowly - cortege speed is only 15 - 20mph - although these new vehicles have three litre engines because of the weight they have to carry. We could beat most cars off at the lights but we never would, we're far too professional and dignified!"

Richard said the new purchase was part of the firm's on going commitment to the local community.

"This is another piece of our ever growing jigsaw which began in 1998 with our move into the purpose built Eric F. Box funeral home near Redbrick Mill. We want people in Dewsbury and the surrounding area to have the best and this Jaguar fleet will certainly assure them of that. Unless they want to hike to the south of the county, they won't see another like it!" he added.
