Funeral Price Guide
Disbursements
The total cost of a funeral will also include disbursements. These are fees which the funeral director pays out on behalf of the family so that the funeral can take place. Each funeral has its own unique disbursements but the most common ones are below.
Standard Disbursements for a Cremation
Cremation Fee
Prices vary from crematorium to crematorium around the UK. Prices would be between £400 and £550.
Doctor's Fee
This is a fee which is paid to two doctors to complete the cremation certificates. These are legal certificates and have to be completed for every cremation which takes place. The fee is set by the BMA. The current fee is £65.00 per doctor which makes a total of £130.00
If the coroner has been involved and a post mortem has taken place, then this fee will not have to be paid.
Minister's Fee
This is a fee which is paid to the minister or person taking the funeral service at the crematorium. The fee is set by the church commissioners if a vicar is taking the service or by the British Humanist Society if a humanist minister officiates. The fee is £103.00 - £150.00
Church Fee
If there is a service in a church prior to the service at the crematorium, then a fee has to be paid to the church. Fees vary from church to church but average fees are around £150.00 - £250.00.
Standard Disbursements for a Burial
Burial Fee
Prices vary from cemetery to cemetery around the UK. Prices depend on whether a new grave has to be purchased or if there is an existing family plot, if a new grave is required how many interments is it to be dug for.
Average prices for a new grave - £1000 upwards
Average prices for an interment in an existing grave - £500 upwards
Church Fee
