Registering a Death
How to register a death
In England and Wales, a death must be registered by the Registrar of Births & Deaths for the area in which the death occurred.
Only certain family members are allowed to register the death. If you are unsure whether or not you have the authority, we will advise you. The death must be registered within five days, unless a coroner is involved.
If the death of your loved one has been reported to the Coroner, we will advise you when to register the death. Registration will depend on the Coroner's findings and hence varies from death to death.

The Offices of Registration
We will inform you which Office of Registration you need to be going to. If it will help, we can collect you and come to the registrars with you, so you won't have to worry about the procedure.
